Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ founded one Church through His Apostles for the salvation of mankind. This Church spread throughout the world, remaining united in faith, worship, and the sacraments, and is known today as the Orthodox Church. The ancient Patriarchates of Rome, Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, and Jerusalem were founded by the Apostles, and many other Orthodox Churches later arose through missionary work.
Orthodox teaching comes from both Holy Scripture and Sacred Tradition, which together preserve the fullness of Christ’s revelation. The Church proclaims faith in the Holy Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and confesses Jesus Christ as fully God and fully man. The Orthodox honor the Saints, especially the Mother of God, and venerate holy icons and relics as representations of God and His Saints.
The Church recognizes seven Sacraments: Baptism, Chrismation, Eucharist, Confession, Ordination, Marriage, and Holy Unction. Through Baptism and Chrismation one enters the Church; through the Eucharist believers partake of the true Body and Blood of Christ for eternal life; and through the other Sacraments divine grace sanctifies all stages of life.
The Orthodox Church is the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church—one because Christ founded it, holy through the Holy Spirit, catholic because it is universal, and apostolic because it continues in the faith and succession of the Apostles.
The GOC (Genuine Orthodox Christians) of America is an autonomous eparchy serving the faithful of North and South America. There are currently seven bishops/hierarchs who serve the faithful in North and South America. They are also members of the Holy Synod of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece. The president of the Synod of Greece is Archbishop Kallinikos of Athens and All Greece. The GOC follow the Patristic (Julian) Calendar and resist the pan-heresy of Ecumenism and adhere to the Holy Traditions of the Orthodox Christian faith.
