St. Nicholas of Myra Orthodox Church is part of the GOC of America (Genuine Orthodox Christians of America ) and serves under the omophorion of his Eminence, Metropolitan Demetrius of America.
In October of 2012, Metropolitan Demetrius visited the Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC area and at the request of many believers here, blessed the formation of a mission parish. Many saints were considered for the naming of the mission, however, by the grace of God, St. Nicholas of Myra was chosen as the patron of the parish. A priest was now needed to tend to the flock. It was at this juncture that his Eminence, Metropolitan Demetrius asked Fr. George Psaromatis (who at that time resided in Oregon and served under the Omophorion of His Eminence, Metropolitan Moses of Portland) if he could move to Maryland and help the mission. Metropolitan Moses agreed to release Fr. George to be the parish priest for St. Nicholas. Fr. George, Presbytera Mary and their eleven children now live in Maryland and administer to the parish of St. Nicholas.
In 2023, our parish was blessed by the ordination of our second priest, Fr. John Psaromatis. Fr. John assists in the catechumenate and other educational efforts of our parish. Fr. John and Presbytera Catherine, and their five children help administer to the parish of St. Nicholas and help with GOC Metropolis missionary visits.
The parish of St. Nicholas is also blessed with one sub-deacon, seven tonsured readers, two ecclesiarches, and too many altar servers to count. Glory be to God for all things.
The services of our parish are conducted mostly in English, with about 10% conducted in Greek. We use the Byzantine chant style in the majority of our services. Our parish is blessed with multiple chanters who make up two choirs.
